A switch used to connect an identified circuit section to earth.

## What it represents

An earthing-switch representation identifies a switching connection between an electrical circuit section and earth. This is a switching device, not merely an earth-reference mark. On an SLD, its location helps explain which part of the switchgear or circuit is connected to earth when the device operates.
Switchgear documentation can include earthing-switch position indications and interlocks with other devices. Those relationships need to be shown or referenced separately. The generic concept here does not establish operating sequence, duty, interlock logic or permission to operate equipment.

## How to read it

- Identify the circuit section and earth connection on either side of the switching element.
- Follow interlock and position references in the equipment documentation.

## Information to show or reference

- Identify the associated panel or circuit.
- Reference the specified device duty.
- Cross-reference interlocks and position indication.

## Important distinction

A protective-earth mark identifies a connection or function. An earthing switch identifies equipment that makes a switching connection.
