## Symbol convention

Convention: IEC
Form: Multicore sealing end
Independent IEC-context illustration; not certified IEC geometry.

A cable termination where a multicore cable is sealed and its cores separated out to individual phase connections.

## In plain English

### What does Multicore cable sealing end mean?

The multicore sealing end shows a three-core or other multicore cable ending in a single termination from which the individual cores fan out. It is typical on medium voltage three-core cables entering ring main units, pole-mounted transformers and outdoor line transitions, where a breakout boot separates the cores.

### A simple example

The symbol does not tell the reader the termination type or the screen and armour earthing arrangement. Armour is usually earthed at the gland and the core screens at the termination, both of which should appear on the earthing details. Phase identification of the fanned-out cores must also be checked against the equipment.

### What the drawings help you do

Check phase identification of the separated cores. Find armour and screen earthing details. A multicore sealing end splits one cable into several cores; a single-core sealing end terminates one core per cable.

### Terms

- Winding: A coil of conductor inside an electrical machine or transformer.
- Phase: One of the related AC waveforms in a power system.
- Rating: A value stating the conditions for which equipment is specified.

## How to read it

- Check phase identification of the separated cores.
- Find armour and screen earthing details.

## Information to show or reference

- State termination type and voltage class.
- Label phases on the separated cores.
- Show armour and screen earthing.

## Important distinction

A multicore sealing end splits one cable into several cores; a single-core sealing end terminates one core per cable.
