Underwater cable

The underwater cable form identifies a section laid on or beneath a water bed. It appears on offshore wind export and array diagrams, island interconnectors and river crossings. The mark is a route indicator, so it sits on the cable line rather than replacing it.

Underground cable

The underground cable form marks a circuit section that is buried, either directly in soil or in buried ducts. Network diagrams use it to separate cable sections from overhead sections, since cables have higher capacitance, lower reactance and are generally not suited to repeated auto-reclose onto a fault.
