EV charger power module

In plain English

What does EV charger power module mean?

A charger power module is one conversion building block within a charging system.

A simple example

A charging station can coordinate several selected modules to supply its DC output.

Original functional explanation. Arrows show information or energy roles; two-headed arrows identify two-way interfaces. This is not a pinout, certified standards graphic or complete circuit.

What the drawings help you do

Show the module as a conversion building block inside the station, rather than the complete charger. Label its power input, controlled output and supervisory interface. Where several modules are used, identify their arrangement instead of assuming their output ratings can simply be added.

Module
A building block used within a larger equipment assembly.
Supervisory interface
The connection through which a system controller monitors or commands a module.

Before using this reference

  • Identify the module input and output interfaces.
  • Show module control and any shared-output arrangement.
  • Reference the module cooling, installation and compatibility documents.
What else does a charging station need?

The selected station can also need input distribution, protection, cooling, metering, vehicle communication and output switching. A power-module drawing does not automatically supply those surrounding systems.
