Integrated load switch

In plain English

What does Integrated load switch mean?

An integrated load switch connects or disconnects a supply path under an enable or control signal.

A simple example

A controller can turn a subsystem's supply on only when it is needed.

What the drawings help you do

Put supply input, switched output and enable control on separate labelled connections. The load switch turns a subsystem’s supply on or off. Soft-start, discharge and fault protection are optional product features; show them only when the chosen device provides them.

Enable
A control requesting the selected device to operate.
Output discharge
A separately specified feature that removes charge from a disabled output.

Before using this reference

  • Identify input supply and switched load output.
  • Show enable control and any implemented status output.
  • Reference startup, discharge and protection features individually.
Is every load switch also an electronic fuse?

No. A load switch primarily controls a supply path. Current limiting or fault interruption must be explicitly supported by the selected product or separate protection circuit.

A distinction that matters

Startup control and fault-protection features vary by device; they must not be assumed from the block name.
