Power-rail enable interface

In plain English

What does Power-rail enable interface mean?

An enable interface requests a selected power supply or switched rail to operate.

A simple example

A sequencer can drive the enable input of a regulator while separately monitoring its status.

Original functional explanation. Arrows show information or energy roles; two-headed arrows identify two-way interfaces. This is not a pinout, certified standards graphic or complete circuit.

What the drawings help you do

Draw enable as a command entering the regulator or switch, and show the resulting supply output separately. If status is returned, label that connection independently. This prevents the command to operate from being mistaken for confirmation that the power rail is healthy.

Command
A request for a device to take an action.
Power-good
An indication of the generating device’s specified acceptable-supply conditions.

Before using this reference

  • Identify the device receiving enable.
  • State the enable signal’s active condition.
  • Show the separate supply output and status feedback if used.
Is enable the same as power-good?

No. Enable requests operation; power-good reports a specified condition. A circuit can assert enable while the supply is still starting or while a fault prevents it reaching the required state.

A distinction that matters

Enable is a command input; power-good is a condition output.
