Screened multi-conductor cable

This form draws one screen outline around a group of conductors to show an overall or collective screen. It is common on instrument multicore cables, field bus trunks and multi-pair analogue cables run from field junction boxes back to a marshalling cabinet.

Overall screened multicore form. Independent IEC-context illustration of a collective screen; not certified IEC geometry.

A distinction that matters

An overall screened cable shields all its cores together; a screened twisted pair shields one pair on its own.

Screened conductor

A screened conductor symbol adds an outline around one conductor to show a conductive screen, braid or foil surrounding the core. It is used for analogue instrument signals, encoder and thermocouple extension wiring and other circuits where capacitively coupled interference must be kept off the signal.

Screened single-conductor form. Independent IEC-context illustration; consult IEC 60617 for the exact screen outline.

A distinction that matters

A screened conductor has a conductive shield; a cable-core grouping outline only shows that several cores share one sheath and implies no shielding.
