Electric space heater plan mark

Plan mark for a fixed electric space heater, drawn as a rectangle with internal heating strokes.

In plain English

What does Electric space heater plan mark mean?

Fixed space heaters such as panel heaters, convector heaters and radiant wall heaters are drawn as a rectangle at the wall with parallel strokes or a zigzag representing the heating element. The rating in watts or kilowatts is usually written beside the symbol.

A simple example

The mark tells the electrician to provide a dedicated circuit or fused connection and a control, which may be an integral thermostat or a room thermostat shown separately. Heater ratings feed the maximum demand calculation. The heating element symbol on schematics shows the resistor function; this plan mark locates a complete appliance.

What the drawings help you do

Read the kW rating. Check how the heater is controlled. A heating element in a schematic is a component; this plan mark represents an installed heater appliance.
