Breaker intermediate-position indication

Identifies the temporary or unresolved state between the defined open and closed indications. Breaker status indications describe the operating mechanism, the removable truck or the health of a supporting system. These signals are related but are not interchangeable: an open breaker can still have its truck connected to live bus contacts.

A distinction that matters

An intermediate state is not a stable open indication. This reference describes the named application; it does not establish a new IEC graphical symbol, an ANSI device-function number or an exact manufacturer connection diagram.

Circuit breaker

A circuit-breaker representation identifies a device capable of interrupting its circuit under the operating conditions for which it is rated. The drawing should connect that device to its equipment identification, protection arrangement and control information. The graphical mark alone does not establish the current rating, breaking capacity or trip settings.

A distinction that matters

A disconnector provides isolation; it is not automatically a fault-interrupting circuit breaker. Check published device capabilities.
