Side-by-side reference

Understand the difference.

Compare the meaning, drawing context and source references of two entries. A similar graphic or shared abbreviation does not establish equivalence.

CSBACapacitor-bank switching bay arrangement: original educational illustration

Capacitor-bank switching bay arrangement

Connects the selected capacitor bank through the assigned switching and protection interfaces. A bay circuit arrangement groups the switching, measuring and protection interfaces associated with a specific network circuit. A line bay, transformer bay and reactor bay share some devices but connect different kinds of primary equipment.

A distinction that matters

Residual charge and switching duty need equipment-specific design. This reference describes the named application; it does not establish a new IEC graphical symbol, an ANSI device-function number or an exact manufacturer connection diagram.

CBCircuit breaker: original educational illustration

Circuit breaker

A circuit-breaker representation identifies a device capable of interrupting its circuit under the operating conditions for which it is rated. The drawing should connect that device to its equipment identification, protection arrangement and control information. The graphical mark alone does not establish the current rating, breaking capacity or trip settings.

A distinction that matters

A disconnector provides isolation; it is not automatically a fault-interrupting circuit breaker. Check published device capabilities.
