ANSI/IEEE normally-closed limit switch symbol

IEEE-oriented graphical reference for normally-closed limit switch, with public vendor evidence and drawing-reading notes.

IEEE / ANSI · Autodesk IEEE-oriented Limit Switches functional form

Autodesk explicitly publishes this block under IEEE Symbol Preview. The counterpart is the matching functional concept; no equivalence of every detailed standard graphic is asserted.

Shown as an independently authored educational illustration. Use the cited publication and drawing legend to verify the required drafting form.

What it represents

The NC limit-switch form describes a reference continuous circuit opened at the documented actuation position. Drawing interpretation needs the travel condition and return action, particularly where the switch participates in a permissive.

This is a convention-specific lookup based on the publisher's IEEE-labelled preview. The geometry here is independently drawn to explain the connection or operation; it is not a certified reproduction of the standard graphic.

How to read it

  • Check states during rest, travel and final position.
  • Read the selected library and the project legend together. A vendor block identifier is meaningful within its named library and is not a universal standard-symbol code.

Information to show or reference

  • State normal position
  • Identify actuation condition
  • Reference contact terminals

A distinction that matters

Normally closed does not itself establish a monitored safety or fault-detection function.

About this graphic

This illustration was authored independently by Elora Grid to explain the concept. It is not reproduced from a customer drawing, an official standard graphic or a manufacturer CAD file. Its correspondence to an exact IEC or IEEE symbol identifier has not been certified.

SVG and DXF downloads contain this original artwork. DXF uses unscaled drawing units; a GA envelope supplies no product dimensions, clearances or fabrication information. Original artwork is available under CC BY 4.0. Third-party references retain their own terms.
