What this block does

Identifies the condition-monitoring path recording the selected breaker pole movement.

A simple example

In a switchyard marshalling kiosk, gas compartment, operating mechanism and cabinet-service indications are collected for the station controller. Their equipment tags identify the actual compartment or mechanism being monitored. For this reference, the drawing identifies “Pole travel measurements” at the input and “Travel-condition information” at the output. Sensor position and analysis method must be known.

What the drawings help you do

Start at the named input: Pole travel measurements. Identify its source device or document and the state represented on the drawing. Follow the named output: Travel-condition information. Cross-reference its destination and separate the command from confirmation that the equipment responded.

What it represents

Identifies the condition-monitoring path recording the selected breaker pole movement. Yard equipment supervision carries the condition and support-system information of primary equipment into station alarms. A monitor's declared alarm, measurement and self-fault output need separate point names.

Keep primary-device identity, compartment boundaries and monitor health visible. A monitoring illustration does not establish a leak rate, operating threshold or remaining equipment life. The functional block is an independent explanation of this named application. Equipment-specific ratings, terminal connections and operating conditions must be established in the project documentation.

How to read it

  • Start at the named input: Pole travel measurements. Identify its source device or document and the state represented on the drawing.
  • Follow the named output: Travel-condition information. Cross-reference its destination and separate the command from confirmation that the equipment responded.
  • Sensor position and analysis method must be known.
  • Keep primary-device identity, compartment boundaries and monitor health visible. A monitoring illustration does not establish a leak rate, operating threshold or remaining equipment life.

Information to show or reference

  • Label the source and connection reference for pole travel measurements.
  • Identify the destination and defined state of travel-condition information.
  • Record the equipment or control-document revision supporting this functional block.
  • Check this application limit in the project design: Sensor position and analysis method must be known.

A distinction that matters

Sensor position and analysis method must be known. This reference describes the named application; it does not establish a new IEC graphical symbol, an ANSI device-function number or an exact manufacturer connection diagram.
