What it represents

A liquid-flow qualifier identifies the process input operating a device. A flow-operated device responds to the movement of liquid through a documented process path. It can supply a switching condition without being a quantitative flow meter.

For a cooling-water interlock, keep the process connection, switch output and permissive logic separately identifiable. The circuit symbol does not supply the selected flow setting.

How to read it

  • Show the process connection and the contact normal state separately.
  • The qualifier does not establish a flow threshold or measuring accuracy.

Information to show or reference

  • Identify the associated device, circuit or diagram boundary.
  • Show the process connection and the contact normal state separately.
  • Cross-reference the equipment data, terminal mapping or operating-state legend needed to interpret the form.

A distinction that matters

The qualifier does not establish a flow threshold or measuring accuracy.
