What it represents

This qualifier identifies an operating mechanism driven by a motor. The motor is an operating mechanism for another device, rather than necessarily the main load shown on the power diagram. A motor-operated switching device has power contacts, a drive circuit and position information.

Show those interfaces through device tags and cross-references. The operating qualifier should remain attached to the switching function even if the motor control circuit appears on another sheet.

How to read it

  • Cross-reference the drive supply and the operated device's position/control scheme.
  • A motor-operated switch still needs its own electrical switching function and interlock information.

Information to show or reference

  • Identify the associated device, circuit or diagram boundary.
  • Cross-reference the drive supply and the operated device's position/control scheme.
  • Cross-reference the equipment data, terminal mapping or operating-state legend needed to interpret the form.

A distinction that matters

A motor-operated switch still needs its own electrical switching function and interlock information.
