What it represents

An analogue amplifier represented by inverting and non-inverting inputs, an output and its supply connections.

On a schematic, identify the plus/minus input roles, power rails and feedback network and trace the amplified signal and output load. Keep the component tag and signal/reference names consistent across the control drawing, terminal schedule and device documentation.

An op amp is designed for its documented amplifier behaviour; it is not interchangeable with a dedicated fast voltage comparator.

Terminal letters describe electrical roles, not package pin numbers. Check the selected public datasheet for the actual pin assignment, polarity and any internally connected terminals before completing the drawing.

How to read it

  • Identify the plus/minus input roles, power rails and feedback network.
  • Trace the amplified signal and output load.

Information to show or reference

  • Label the plus/minus input roles, power rails and feedback network.
  • Cross-reference the amplified signal and output load.
  • Add the selected device or circuit documentation revision, power/reference connections and project signal convention.

A distinction that matters

An op amp is designed for its documented amplifier behaviour; it is not interchangeable with a dedicated fast voltage comparator.
