What it represents

A circuit breaker interrupts one pole of a circuit. In an expanded schematic the remaining conductors, neutral and protective conductor are drawn separately; the single-pole image does not describe a complete supply arrangement.

How to read it

  • Count the protected and switched poles independently of the circuit phase count.
  • The preview is an original explanation of this function. Match the actual drawing convention to its legend and the selected equipment documentation.

Information to show or reference

  • State pole count
  • Identify trip characteristic
  • Cross-reference the neutral arrangement

A distinction that matters

A one-line feeder symbol can represent a multipole device; a single-pole schematic element represents one actual pole.
