What it represents

This qualifier marks the power-contactor function of the associated switching device. A contactor function identifies switching under its control input, with main contacts and auxiliary contacts forming related circuit views. The operating coil may be drawn far from the power circuit.

Use common device tagging to link the coil and contact sets. Fault protection and overload functions should be identified through their actual devices rather than assumed from the contactor mark.

How to read it

  • Cross-reference coil control and the device's main and auxiliary contacts.
  • A contactor function does not imply independent short-circuit protection.

Information to show or reference

  • Identify the associated device, circuit or diagram boundary.
  • Cross-reference coil control and the device's main and auxiliary contacts.
  • Cross-reference the equipment data, terminal mapping or operating-state legend needed to interpret the form.

A distinction that matters

A contactor function does not imply independent short-circuit protection.
