Power-good indication

In plain English

What does Power-good indication mean?

A power-good signal reports whether the source's specified acceptable-supply conditions are satisfied.

A simple example

A downstream circuit can use this status when deciding whether to enable its operation.

Original functional explanation. Arrows show information or energy roles; two-headed arrows identify two-way interfaces. This is not a pinout, certified standards graphic or complete circuit.

What the drawings help you do

Draw power-good as a status signal from its source or supervisor to the receiving controller. It is information about specified acceptable conditions, not the supply conductor itself. State the active level and timing requirements from the selected source so the receiving circuit interprets it correctly.

Active level
The signal level representing the stated condition.
Status signal
Information describing a condition rather than carrying the load’s operating power.

Before using this reference

  • Identify the device generating the indication.
  • Show the active level and receiving input.
  • Reference acceptable conditions and assertion/release timing.
Does power-good measure how much power is available?

Not generally. It reports whether the generating device’s defined conditions are satisfied. It does not automatically report spare capacity, complete system readiness or a continuously measured power value.

A distinction that matters

Power-good timing and thresholds come from the selected source or supervisor.
