Microgrid drawings: identify the equipment boundaries
Distinguish generating sources, battery storage, power conversion, switching and controls before connecting their electrical and GA references.
Name the equipment and its scope
A microgrid drawing can include generating equipment, storage, conversion, switching and controls. Identify the represented equipment boundaries before interpreting the system. A battery cabinet and a complete BESS are not necessarily the same supplied scope.
Eaton's public storage information distinguishes battery equipment, power conversion and control equipment. Cummins publishes generator switchgear and control information. Those examples help explain the categories without prescribing one universal topology.
Keep AC and DC interfaces explicit
Battery storage and its power-conversion interface can sit on different electrical circuit forms. Label the AC and DC interfaces and connect them to the selected product documentation. A generic inverter or PCS box does not define every protective, isolation or control function around it.
Power-flow direction and grid-forming, grid-following or island-operation capabilities depend on the selected products and complete system design. Do not infer those capabilities from a graphical mark.
Separate transfer, synchronising and protection
Source transfer, synchronism checking and protective operation are different functions. Read the operating arrangement and permitted transitions from the specified equipment and system documents. An ATS designation does not automatically establish permission to parallel sources.
Device-function numbers can help identify selected functions on a drawing, but their parameters, measurement inputs and relationship to switching equipment require supporting documents.
Connect the SLD to the physical equipment
Link the source and equipment identifiers on the SLD to the corresponding GA, product and equipment schedule. Use exact product drawings for cabinet and package dimensions. Identify which auxiliaries and interfaces are included in each represented assembly.
The library's original envelopes are useful references for equipment concepts. They are not a selected microgrid design, installation envelope or construction drawing, and contain no customer topology or project information.
