What to reference in a switchroom GA drawing
A practical document checklist for equipment identity, views, cable interfaces, access information and links to the electrical drawings.
Make equipment identity consistent
A switchroom GA should connect each represented item to the equipment schedule and electrical drawings. The generic category tells a reviewer what kind of object it is; the product and configuration tell them which physical equipment is intended.
Use consistent identifiers for switchgear panels, switchboards, control cabinets and other equipment. Resolve mismatches between an SLD reference and a GA label before treating them as the same selected object.
Read the required views together
Plan and elevation views explain different parts of the arrangement. Check the source drawing for equipment orientation, connection locations and accessories. A single top-view envelope may not describe the selected assembly sufficiently.
Separate the manufacturer equipment dimensions from room or structural dimensions. Keep each value connected to its source instead of treating all numbers as interchangeable arrangement assumptions.
Document routes and interfaces
Identify cable routes, support systems, busbar trunking and equipment connection interfaces. Manufacturer systems define their own fittings and geometry, so a generic route line should lead to the selected system documentation.
Keep electrical connectivity and physical routing separate. An SLD busbar represents an electrical node; a GA busway route represents actual equipment and its interfaces.
Reference access and installation requirements
Use the selected equipment documentation and engineered requirements for access, maintenance, installation and other arrangement constraints. This checklist deliberately supplies no universal clearance dimensions.
A useful review records the equipment reference, drawing revision and unresolved information for each object. Original conceptual envelopes can support that discussion, but they do not replace product GAs or approved detailed design.
